AI App Development
Ignore The Nonsense
I build commercial-grade AI applications from scratch, using tools like Claude Code to ship real, working software fast. I created the Presstack Plugin for WordPress, and I've spent two decades under the bonnet of the web so when I build an AI app, it's engineered properly, not cobbled together from a tutorial.
Whether the brief is a WordPress AI plugin, a standalone web app, or an automated pipeline that replaces hours of manual work, I write the code, test it on real infrastructure, and hand over something that actually runs.
How I Got Into AI App Development
I started writing PHP by hand before WordPress existed, building sites like Find-Me-Now.com and Frogster.com from scratch in the mid-2000s. I spent time at Google in Palo Alto in 2004 and was the first person in the UK to install Google Search Partner. That background matters because I approach AI app development the same way I approached early web programming, getting into the mechanics rather than reaching for a shortcut.
When large language models became genuinely capable, I didn't just write about them. I started building with them. Claude Code is the tool I use to move fast on AI applications, writing and iterating full codebases that would take weeks by hand. The Presstack plugin for WordPress came out of that process, a commercial product I designed, coded and shipped myself.
Every app I build starts with the same question, what does this actually need to do, and what is the leanest way to make it reliable? The unseen work, the error handling, the API architecture, the performance under load, that's where most of the time goes. It's not glamorous, but it's what separates a working product from a demo.
The Short Version
- Creator of the Presstack plugin for WordPress
- Builds AI apps using Claude Code
- PHP, JavaScript, HTML and API integration from scratch
- Commercial-grade output, solo operation, no account managers
- Based in the UK, works with clients worldwide
Nothing I ship is a prototype dressed up as a product. Every AI app is tested on real infrastructure, with real data, before it goes anywhere near a client.
I use Claude Code to accelerate development without cutting corners. It lets me write, review and iterate complex codebases fast, while I stay in control of the architecture and the final output.
AI development has real constraints around reliability, cost and latency. I'd rather tell you those upfront and design around them than overpromise and patch it later.
What I Build
Six types of AI app work, all drawn from real projects. Start wherever your brief fits.
Questions People Ask Me
Can you build a commercial AI app from scratch?
Yes. I build complete applications, not just proofs of concept. That covers the architecture, the front end, the back end, the AI integration and the deployment. If you have a specific brief in mind, get in touch via the contact page, email sales@yorkshiredesign.co.uk or call 07757 245656 and we can talk through what it would take.
What is Claude Code and how do you use it?
Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It reads, writes and edits full codebases directly in the terminal, working through complex tasks that would take hours to write manually. I use it to accelerate the development of AI apps while maintaining full control over the architecture, the logic and the final code quality. It's a tool, not a replacement for knowing how the code works.
What is Presstack?
Presstack is a WordPress plugin I designed and built myself. It's an AI automation system for WordPress, built to handle real publishing workflows rather than toy demos. It came out of years of running large-scale WordPress sites and knowing exactly where the painful manual bottlenecks sit.
Where are you based, and does that affect the work?
Arnside, Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. It has no effect on the work at all. I've built and delivered apps for clients across the UK and internationally for years. Everything from scoping to delivery runs remotely, and the code doesn't care where I'm sitting when I write it.
